Here, we catch up with Author and mother Dr. Janell Jones who is a Healing Action Purpose Coach who helps women heal from the past, clarify their purpose, and create an action plan to manifest their dreams!
This bestselling author, speaker and coach is also an advocate for children! She advises us to diligently learn our child's gifts and greatness and to affirm them daily. She said it is never too early to introduce your child to positive affirmations, planning and developing vision boards (be sure to carefully explain the purpose of the vision boards).
How are you doing? How would you describe your life as a mom in just six words? Constantly praying for wisdom and discernment!
What was the best advice on motherhood you ever received? To affirm your children starting at a very young age. Be diligent in learning your child's gifts and greatness and affirm them daily.
How old are your kids? I have a blended family. My children are 24, 21, 20, 19, and 19.
What are some things you and your family are doing to manage during Covid? The key is trying to stay safe. Since we had time to sit and think, we've become more clear on what we want to do with our futures.
How are you keeping your kids busy? Although my children are adults, we are working to determine how to reach their dreams. We are doing this by using daily affirmations, vision boarding, and planning. Side note: you can have your children start vision boarding at a young age. Be sure to explain to them the purpose of vision boarding.
What is your daily routine like? I wake up, meditate and pray, care for my mother, and work from home or work in my business. Since my children are older, I do daily check-ins with them to make sure they are on track.
What are your three “must-haves” as a mother? The three must-haves are boundaries, self-care, and some fun.
What advice do you have for working moms? Make sure you are balancing your time. I often see mothers' putting themselves on the back burner and become unfulfilled in their personal and professional lives.
I see you authored a book. Please tell us more about that. When did you start writing? What was the process like? What would you tell someone who wants to write a book? I have several best-selling books that I've written to reach women and girls. My goal is to equip them with tools to help them love themselves and know their worth. I didn't start writing until I was an adult. I was more interested in getting my point across than writing. The first book I created was Beauty in Mahogany which was written for brown skin girls to love themselves, build their confidence, and accept others because of the stigma of colorism in the brown communities.
I have written several other books to help women, but I am proud to announce my second book in Beauty in Mahogany collection will come out at the end of this year entitled Beauty in Mahogany; Road Trip to Nana's. I self-published my book under my publishing company Melanin Grace Publishing, LLC. Initially, this process was very tedious. Now, I am a publishing consultant along with another company and we help others publishing their books. If you want to write a book, do it. We are living in a great time where you can create what you want.
